Mr. Gideon Kiplangat – Jitume Coordinator

Jitume Program is an initiative aimed at providing the youth with access to Digital Services, Digital Skills, and Opportunities to enable them take advantage of technology for job creation. Jitume is a bundled program that takes care of the main challenges facing the citizens regarding taking advantage of digital opportunities. The challenges range from access to digital devices and internet connectivity, training, and knowledge as well as opportunities that can result in decent and dignified income. It encourages the youth to take it upon themselves (Jitume) to access digital devices and opportunities to learn, become certified on skills for the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) and to access digital job.

Konza Technopolis has identified the solution to those challenges by providing digital devices known as Virtual desktops (VDI’s). SOT Jitume Centre has been equipped with 100 VDI’s.

Konza has partnered with a world-class accredited institutions including Thunderbird School of Global Management (Thunderbird), and Arizona State University (ASU) to offer online global education. The SOT Digital Skills lab was launched by the President H.E Dr. William Ruto and has since rolled out training to more than 100 trainees.

The initiative aims to reduce the current rate of unemployment in Kenya, which stood at 10.4% by 2020. The Jitume Digital Hubs under the Jitume Digital Enablement Programme aims to bring the benefits of information and communication technology to underserved areas by providing digital connectivity, services, products, skills training and digital jobs linkages while unlocking access to BPOs/ITES jobs to Kenyans in the remote areas.

This program recognizes the importance of bridging the digital divide and ensuring that all communities have real-time access to the resources and opportunities provided by the digital age. By establishing digital infrastructure, providing training and education, and fostering local innovation, the program aims to empower rural, peri-urban, and urban communities, improve livelihoods, and enhance socio-economic development.
